Game overview

Rats and Cheese is a wall-jumping platform game about getting a lost rat home. The mouse hole is always somewhere above you, and the only way up is to bounce between opposing walls, timing each jump so the next surface is where you expect it. Cheese hidden along the shafts is worth the detour, since collecting it unlocks new characters, and the traps and narrow ledges scattered through later climbs make the tidy route and the fast route different things.

This title is best suited to players who enjoy one-touch wall-jumping platformers.

  2. Keep the rhythm going to climb the shaft
  3. Take a detour for hidden cheese when the route allows

Tips for Rats and Cheese

  • Jump the moment you touch a wall rather than pausing on it
  • Skip a risky cheese when the trap timing is tight, since finishing pays too
  • Learn the rhythm of a shaft on a slow run before trying to climb it quickly

What worked well and what did not

Pros

  • One-touch climbing feels good once the rhythm clicks
  • Cheese collecting gives the climbs a second goal

Cons

  • Trap placement can feel unfair on first sight
  • Levels reuse the same shaft layouts
