Game overview

UNRAVEL is a minimalist sliding puzzle with one rule and a lot of depth. Every block on the board carries an arrow, and tapping a block sends it sliding that way until it leaves the board or collides with another piece and stops. Clearing the board is easy; clearing it in the right order is the puzzle, because a careless first tap can leave two pieces wedged together with no legal way out. The hundred levels across ten chapters teach the language early and then ask you to read the whole board like a chess position.

This title is best suited to players who want a pure ordering puzzle in short levels.

How to play UNRAVEL

  1. Read the arrow on each block to see which way it will travel
  2. Tap a block to send it sliding until it exits or hits another piece
  3. Work out an order that never traps a block behind a blocker
  4. Clear every block on the board before your moves run out

Controls

  • Tap / left mouse button: Slide a block in the direction of its arrow
  • Restart button: Reset the board after a dead end

Objectives and failure conditions

Objectives

  • Clear every block from the board
  • Finish each level inside the move allowance
  • Work through all ten chapters

The run ends or fails when

  • The move counter empties with blocks still on the board
  • Remaining blocks all point into each other and nothing can move

Gameplay mechanics

  • Direction-locked sliding blocks
  • Collision stops that turn ordering into the puzzle
  • Move-limited hand-built levels

Tips for UNRAVEL

  • Clear blocks along the edges first, since they have the shortest path off the board
  • Trace the full travel line of a block before tapping it, not just its first square
  • When two blocks point at each other, one of them has to leave first, so find which

What worked well and what did not

Pros

  • A single rule produces genuinely hard positions
  • Short levels make a restart cost almost nothing

Cons

  • Later chapters need real board reading before the first tap
  • Minimalist art gives no visual hints to lean on
